After a much needed post-party and post-Spruce Street Harbor Park opening vacation, I’ve returned to the land of Philly Love Notes. First, I wanted to thank everyone who came out to the #whyilovephilly Summer Party and second I promise to begin posting love notes again (starting tomorrow). I’ve slacked, but I have a ton ready to go thanks to the Philly Papercut Contest (congrats again Leigh and Aaron!).
In total, we raised $11,000 in ticket sales and sponsorship and sold out 900 tickets almost two weeks before the party. That money was all donated to the Delaware River Waterfront Corp (yes, it’s a non-profit even though it seems like a city agency) to continue doing free programming like creating Spruce Street Harbor Park and — shameless plug — FREE concerts like the Purling Hiss/Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band show at SSHP this Thursday from 7:30-10PM.
We had a ton of great sponsors who contributed in kind, in person, in dollars, and in labor, and we could not have put the party on without them. They included:
Sponsors: FringeArts, Green Mountain Energy Company, United by Blue, TicketLeap, Enterprise Car Share,Sixers Cave, SEER Interactive, Young Involved Philadelphia, I-Site, Think Brownstone, NextFab, P’unk Ave,Hooley, Wash Cycle Laundry, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, PHL Made, and Philly Bike Tour Co.
People participated and documented the party in different ways:
Instagram Contest: Rachel Hara and I ran an Instagram contest using the hashtag #whyilovephilly_SSHP and asked people why they loved the city. Check out the feed to get a sense of why people live and love in Philadelphia.
@explore215 – We love the cool Philly bridges and architecture
@jsizzz – The amazing music scene
@philadelphia_gram – I love Philly because it has all the perks of a big city but feels like a community. Everyone can find their little niche and be welcomed.
@sara_smeeee – You can find a reason to explore even when it’s 7 degrees out.
Philly Vendors: The winners received gift bags from our Philly vendors, who were out showing just how many amazing makers there are in this city. Thanks Duke & Winston, US*U.S., Dear Adelaide Design, Art Star, Philadelphia Independents, Hog Island Press and Eyes Habit, Wear Liberty, Girls Can Tell and Quirk Books for bringing your incredible Philly wares to the party.
#whyilovephilly video: Skout Media did this, and I love it.
Guests wrote tons of Philly Love Notes with the help of Hooley Coloring
Everyone seemed to be participating via social media (you’ll have to go wayyyyy back in time for those party tweets)
And of course, we had three fantastic bands play. Many thanks to Philly-based bands Up the Chain, the Lawsuits and Ron Gallo.
Oh, and did I mention the ice cream? Martin Brown, from Little Baby’s Ice Cream and I continued the tradition of making a special flavor just for the party. This one was Strawberry Mansion Shortcake, made with a little love from Stock’s poundcake and Greensgrow Farm’s strawberries.
So what’s next? Well, continue to use #whyilovephilly across social media. It is a great source of inspiration when the city beats you down a little, submit love notes to the blog, and of course, stay tuned for the next party, which is already in the works.
Much Philly love,
