My Love Note

Philos Adelphos – brotherly love. It’s not something you normally associate with a slice of pizza but at Rosa’s FreshPizza, they are serving it up every day. If you haven’t heard about this pizzeria, it’s tucked away on 11th between Market and Chestnut Sts in downtown Philly.  An A-frame outside lists pizza for a dollar a slice. Hard to beat, but if that doesn’t get you to try their pie, I hope this will…

The shop is brightly adorned with a rainbow of Post-It® notes surrounding every inch of its interior, they are filled with well wishes and an invitation for anyone to come enjoy a delicious slice of pie on their behalf.  Each handwritten sticky was paid for so that someone else wouldn’t go hungry. Trade it in and you’ve got a slice of pizza. And before my eyes start welling up, I should tell you that it was last November when I first stepped inside and met the owner, Mason Wartman.  But before I could say anything, I witnessed the exchange of a sticky note for pizza. So simple and yet so magical. Mason had said, “people normally come in, buy a slice, inquire about the wall of notes and then seconds later, they are adding to the collection.”  And of course since then the stories have continued nonstop, including being a guest on Ellen, Mason has run out of room for Post-it ® notes.  And that is a good problem to have.

This is #whyilovephilly.
