Philly Love Notes Gift Guide

Hello friends and Philly-lovers, Time for the first Philly Love Letters Gift Guide! With some help from you, I put together a completely non-comprehensive list of amazing things being done right here in the city (or right outside). This only scratches the surface of the cool stuff being made here. There are always tons of great markets and small businesses to support (like Amalgam Comics, Philadelphia Independents, Yowie, and Omoi Zakka). And of course, one of the best gifts of all -- donating money, time, Read more

Giving Back 2017

Oh this year. Time to buckle down and do what I can to give back. Like last year, I'll be donating all of the profits from the map sales to local nonprofits from Thanksgiving through Giving Tuesday. That means that your purchase of a map will help to support all of the following organizations: Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory, Marian Anderson Historical Society, SEAMAAC, Red Paw Relief and Students Run Philly Style (more about the nonprofits below). Last year we raised Read more

#whyilovephilly Summer Party Recap

After a much needed post-party and post-Spruce Street Harbor Park opening vacation, I’ve returned to the land of Philly Love Notes. First, I wanted to thank everyone who came out to the #whyilovephilly Summer Party and second I promise to begin posting love notes again (starting tomorrow). I’ve slacked, but I have a ton ready to go thanks to the Philly Papercut Contest (congrats again Leigh and Aaron!).

And now for a recap of the #whyilovephilly Summer Party (Summer Jam/Spruce Street Harbor Park Preview/etc) hosted by Philly Love Notes, the Delaware River Waterfront Corp and Drink Philly:

SSHP2

In total, we raised $11,000 in ticket sales and sponsorship and sold out 900 tickets almost two weeks before the party. That money was all donated to the Delaware River Waterfront Corp (yes, it’s a non-profit even though it seems like a city agency) to continue doing free programming like creating Spruce Street Harbor Park and — shameless plug — FREE concerts like the Purling Hiss/Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band show at SSHP this Thursday from 7:30-10PM. Summer #whyilovephilly Party

DRWC_harborpark_scene_color_final

Have you heard the news about the new Spruce Street Harbor Park pop-up coming to the Delaware River Waterfront? Well this summer’s #whyilovephilly Party is going to be its preview party (it’s convenient when you both run Philly Love Notes and work for the waterfront).

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, think of the Penn’s Landing Marina (where the tall ships are) transformed with hammocks everywhere, mist walks, an urban beach and boardwalk, and best of all, floating barges, gardens and nets that suspend you over the water. Oh yeah, there will also be a bar and restaurant, so you can do this all with a drink and food in hand. Need more info, check out Zagat Philly, Foobooz or the Inquirer for details.

AND….. it’s also going to be the album release show for Ron Gallo, with the Lawsuits and Up the Chain. So save June 26th, time TBA, for what will hopefully be one of the best parties of the summer. And if you’re interested in contributing in some way because you want to show your love for Philly, hit me up at phillylovenotes@gmail.com.

What: #whyilovephilly Party Summer Edition

When: Thursday, June 26, 2014

Where: The new Spruce Street Harbor Park at Spruce and Columbus Blvd.

Why: Because we all have to show Philly some love
