My Love Note
Dear Philly Airport (ARRIVALS),
I have spent countless trips returning to you after every weekend get-a-way, family reunion, and summer vacation. While most people can’t stand their return trips and just want to get home, I embrace every second of it.
Let me elaborate…The excitement of planning each trip outside of Philadelphia is such a natural high to me. Every new city I visit brings new adventures and an appreciation for different lifestyles and cultures. As a teacher, I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel quite a bit. I thrive on researching and executing the perfect itinerary for each place I visit. As I plan, I am constantly taking what I love to do in Philly and applying it to my excursions. What could top LOVE Park? I wonder if they have something comparable to Reading Terminal Market. Where can I people watch like I do in Rittenhouse Square? And does such a place exist? You get the idea.
Sure, I am an “experienced” traveler, however, to say I am a hot mess while on board would be an understatement. That being said, I would not trade the feeling of returning to my favorite place in the world for anything.
As the landing gears come down, and the lights from the stadiums guide us in, my anxiety transforms to sheer excitement and comfort. While everyone on the plane groans as the captain announces, “Welcome to Philadelphia, the current weather is 38 degrees and overcast skies,” I smile to myself and think this is home and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Keep your lights shining, your bridges bright, and most of all, keep welcoming me back to the city of brotherly love!.
