My Love Note

Dear Philly,

My love for you cannot be defined by one location, one meal or one memory. It was when I left you that summer of my Drexel co-op in Los Angeles, 10 years ago, that I realized that you would be my forever home. While in LA, the “Real World Philadelphia” was airing and every time I saw your skyline, the bar I worked at, and the streets of Old City, I longed to be back. Back to the grit, the soul, and to the grandmothers.

That’s what I love the most – I love family. I love driving through South Philly and seeing the homes decorated for the holidays. I love the fact that if I find myself in an Irish pub in Greys Ferry, someone there likely knows my grandfather, a West Catholic grad. I love the young mommas and fathers taking a stand in Northern Liberties and beyond, with the intent to STAY, and raise city babies. I love that.

I am excited for you, and for this point in time. My true love and I are renovating our dream home in the New Kensington neighborhood, and we cannot wait to experience the evolution of this area.

Philly, I am so grateful for all you have given me. Beyond the comfort of easy-access Vietnamese Pho, or Café Ole chai teas, it’s the education and professional experience I am so appreciative of. A Drexel alum, current Penn grad student, a two-time local entrepreneur and current Comcast employee; I know the talent and brilliance roaming these streets, and it is thrilling to watch my peers succeed and push boundaries. Philly empowers us.

Philly – straight up, I love you. Sure, all love affairs have their ups and downs, and there is plenty of areas of improvement, but I’m dedicated to you. Will you be mine?
