- About Philly Love Notes
Philly Love Notes is a collection of reminders. There is too much in the city that is forgotten or overlooked. This site seeks to rediscover those places — to remind the city, and us, that it is loved.

Favorite spot: Strawberry Mansion Bridge to Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park
Neighborhood: Fairmount Park
Address: No address
I am: a runner, a plane nerd, and online marketing manager at Philadelphia Runner
Years in Philly: 2
Current Home: Fairmount
My love note: My favorite spot in Philadelphia is this inconspicuous trail just west of the Strawberry Mansion Bridge. There is no better way for me to unwind after a long day than with an evening run, right before sunset, over the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and into the woods of Fairmount Park. As you go further down the trail the car noise subsides and you can forget that you are surrounded by the sixth largest city in the country on all sides. It’s a surreal experience that is unmatched by any other urban park in the country. To me, it’s a hidden gem in a city with many of them.

This may be my new favorite house in Philly. I feel like I’m at Miami Beach. Or at least what I think it would be like.

Favorite Spot: Rittenhouse Square Park
Address: 18th and Walnut
I am: Full time publishing geek, part-time local blogger and English professor, aspiring author.
Years in Philly: 5 years, the first three of which were spent in various neighborhoods (West Philly, Chinatown, Queen Village).
Current Home: Rittenhouse
My Love Note: There are a lot of lovely parks in Philadelphia, and plenty of others within walking distance right in Center City. Washington Square, Fitler Square, Independence Square… there sure are a lot of squares, but only one has managed to capture my heart. Rittenhouse Square.
It’s a love affair that, no matter how times I find myself hurt, I always come running back. The beautiful trees, the lovely people walking adorable dogs, and the farmers market on Saturdays? I adore it.
Rittenhouse Square could try to break up with me and convince me not to stay, possibly while treating me to gelato from the Capogiro nearby, and I simply wouldn’t listen.
Rittenhouse Square: Well, what about that time a homeless man snatched that book out of your hand, babbling nonsense about how he was Jesus and wrote the novel you were reading?
Eric: How could I stay mad at you? It’s okay.
Rittenhouse Square: Or when the Rittenhouse hawk pooped on you. Remember how traumatizing that was? What were the chances?! It was everywhere Eric. Everywhere.
Eric: These things happen. I still love you.
Rittenhouse Square: How about that time I—

Favorite (New) Spot: Morgan’s Pier
Neighborhood: Delaware River Waterfront/Penn’s Landing
Address: 221 N. Columbus Boulevard
I am: the editor of uwishunu.com, jazz drummer, word nerd, granola addict
Years in Philly: 7
Current home: Midtown Village
My love note: Morgan’s Pier is the perfect new summer bar in Philadelphia. The setting is perfect with the fresh river breeze and view of the soaring Ben Franklin Bridge, far enough from the hustle of the city to feel like you’re on a mini vacation; the setup is perfect with casual picnic benches and umbrellas on a boardwalk-like deck; the drinks are perfect, with a huge local craft beer list and really tasty cocktails made from scratch; the food is beyond perfect, from pro David Katz of Meme – who else would dream up “snack bacon,” caramelized bacon you chew on like jerky? One of my favorite things about Philly is that it’s a city of neighborhoods, and each feels so different. Morgan’s Pier turns Penn’s Landing into a neighborhood unto itself, one that I kind of never want to leave…

Sure, there may be some delays and surly conductors, but isn’t that what Philly’s all about? And so, my short love note is to you Septa, especially when a clean, air conditioned train comes to whisk me to the suburbs while I read and play on my computer.
